I love indoor plants and have spent a lot of money and time in collecting a variety of plants. Recently I killed few plants by watering too much because their surface was dry but they were wet inside. This device tells you inner moisture level. It is very easy to use, just stick it in the soil and it will show whether soil is dry, wet or moist. You wand soil to be moist for most indoor plants, but make sure to check instructions for each specific plant. I strongly recommend it. I just got it today and it’s working great. Will update review if it stops working or gives me any trouble.

When I first received the meter I thought it might be defective as the needle sat at “2” when not in use. I have since bought a second meter (different brand) and it does the same thing. I’m guessing the humidity here is somehow affecting them. The instructions say to insert the meter to root level. My advice is to insert at least 2/3rds down – especially if you bottom water – to get the best reading.Don’t use the meter in LECA or Pon, unless you want to damage it. You’re probably not going to get an accurate reading anyway because rocks. I have found coir tends to read on the drier side. Even when thoroughly saturated I can’t seem to get a reading higher than 7. Works fine in traditional soil, though.
